Main objective of the seminar is to focus on national issues related to food and agro industry. Today India is the focal point as companies abroad are eyeing the Indian Food Processing market, foreign companies are already in the business and are on an expansion spree. Indian players are looking out for diversification. Foodbiz in India is set to become a trailblazer; reports from various centers underline these trends.
The current budget brought by the present pragmatic government has put lot of thrust on the agro business. Past trend on the food safety covered chain from food processing to the consumer whereas it has undergone serious change after the episode of MAD COW in the European countries. Today food safety covers farm to fork approach. Considering the present scenario of problems in the process industry and consumer interest whereas our country is at the threshold needs a drastic change of governmental policies to support the industry. A steering committee under the Ministry Of Agriculture has been constituted to bring a user and manufacturing friendly “Integrated Food Act”. Draft Act is under circulation and will be frozen and launched shortly.
ICS has initiated a nation wide programme to bring the quality awareness in the country by organizing seminar on food safety to provide a platform and forum of experts to discuss the national and international practices of continual improvement of the quality of food and services. Small Scale Industry and APEDA has been encouraging the industry to achieve above goal. Their efforts in promoting experts, encompass a wider arena of infrastructure development, quality initiatives, training, packaging development, market promotion, R & D and strengthening information bank.
